The Magic Of Mull 2026
The Magic of Mull
The Isle of Mull lies on the west coast of Scotland and it has a breathtaking coastline of 300 miles, the climate is a mixture of rain and sunshine. From the moment you step onto this beautiful island the wildlife is everywhere and the scenery is stunning.
The island is a wonderful place to see Golden Eagles, White-tailed Eagles, Otters, porpoises and a whole host of Hebridean Wildlife. Come and join me as I take you around this beautiful island on this amazing 6 day-5 night trip.
Our base for the week will be the beautiful Western Isles Hotel in Tobermory, you’ll be treated to picturesque views over the harbour and as well as comfortable accommodation, you’ll enjoy fine cuisine in the restaurant, prepared from the best locally sourced ingredients to make your stay even more memorable.
It will be a wonderful chance to show you the best places that I have found on my many trips to this amazing island and to pass my knowledge onto you.
We have an amazing trip the Treshnish Isles, a designated site of special scientific interest. One of the best places in the UK to see Puffin’s, and teeming with other birds too e.g., Razorbill’s, Guillemots and Seals and possible sightings of passing Basking Sharks that enter the sound of mull to feed on the plankton, offering you some great photographic opportunities.
Mull has a breathtaking landscape and will offer you some brilliant chances for landscape photography too, with the mountain of Ben More with its imposing peak at just over 3000 feet being the highest point on the island where it forms the southern part of the island and holds several pairs of Golden Eagles.
There is so much to do on Mull, but our main targets are Otter’s, White-Tailed Sea Eagles and Golden Eagles, with some much wildlife around you opportunities will present themselves at anytime.
Each day we drive around the island to the many locations so you never miss a photographic opportunity.
You can read about my previous tours I've organised and run to Mull here and here and here and my latest trip here
Day 1
On arrival you can either make your way to the hotel, or I can meet you at the ferry port. We then settle in and discuss what we will be doing over the coming week. If we have time we can head out around Tobermory. Before coming back to the hotel for our evening meal.
Day 2
The pattern of events for each day will be very similar, which will ensure that you get the best out of your time on Mull. Depending on the tide times we get into place at one of the Otter sites I know and hopefully find them as they start to fish. Having our packed lunches means we can stay out the whole day.
Then back to the hotel for our evening meal and a chance to review the days images and go through anything from the day.
Day 3
We head out for the whole day looking for some of Mull's incredible wildlife. After we head back for our evening meal and review the days images and go through the days events.
Day 4
We head out to the port of Ulva Ferry to catch our boat to the Treshnish Isles - (Lunga & Staffa) for some close encounters with Puffins and other beautiful wildlife (weather permitting).
We then head back to the hotel ready for our evening meal and review the day’s events and images.
Day 5
Looking for Otters ( tide dependent ) White-tailed Sea Eagles fishing on one of the huge Loch’s they use, and any other wildlife we come across. All through the week I will take you to the proven places for Mull's wildlife and I will teach you the fieldcraft skills to get closer to the wildlife on this amazing island of Mull.
Day 6
The last day and as a group the choice of where you would like to spend the last morning is yours. We then make our way to the port to catch the ferry back to the port of Oban.

Fitness Level
Most activities will involve short walks, some over uphill, wet and uneven rocky terrain. Waterproof walking boots are essential. A reasonable level of fitness is required.
Recommended Kit
You will need to provide your own photographic equipment, a 500mm lens will be ideal for this trip, but a 300mm with converters should be fine. A tripod, beanbag are a must, and the landscape of Mull will give you many beautiful opportunities to capture it’s beauty so bring a wide-angle if you have one.
Additional Information
Mull’s weather can change at any moment and our locations on the island are fairly exposed so bring appropriate clothing and footwear. A layers system will be the best, wearing several layers to keep you warm, then a windproof/waterproof jacket and trousers are a must. A good all round level of fitness is ideal as the trip involves walking over uneven, rocky ground and lying still in places for some time.
