Tiger Prints

Tigers

Tigers have been my favourite animal ever since I can remember. I recall thinking of them as Mother Nature’s most exquisite creations from a young age, but it wasn’t until 2008 that I had my first opportunity to capture them on camera. I travelled to India with the specific goal of photographing these stunning creatures in the wild, and I’ve been back there doing the same thing every year since.

My annual journey to the Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, India, is a new adventure every time. Each shoot has its own set of challenges and rewards, and I’ve had to rely on the skills and expertise of the local guides and drivers in getting me to the right place to get my images. I really can’t speak highly enough of the people who help me make these shots possible with their incredible first-hand knowledge of where to find the tigers, and how to predict their behaviour.

With each tour to Ranthambore, I also get the opportunity to snap other rare and often elusive species. We might set out looking for tigers early in the morning and have dozens of shots of Sambar deer, Chital deer, langurs, and a whole host of other mammal species before noon. That doesn’t even begin to touch on the beauty of the landscape, or the stunning plant and bird species in play.

Nothing beats that feeling of vaguely making out the first stripes of the day among the grass. From there, I can just lose myself for hours as I play around with my equipment trying to get the most beautiful, most memorable, and most striking images of these animals I love so much.
