Spring In Norfolk 2022

Spring in Norfolk photo tour

Spring in Norfolk

Norfolk is blessed with a rich and varied wildlife heritage, famous for its wild north coast, the rivers, lakes and marshes of the Broads and the sandy heaths.

There are also the fens, grasslands and ancient woods within the wider farmed countryside, all beautiful and often valuable wild places that we will encounter many photographic opportunities and experiences. My knowledge of the North Norfolk Coast will take you to the best places a long this beautiful coastline ensuring your chances of getting some lovely images.

Join me on my 3 day workshop where we will capture waders such as Knot, Avocet, and Black and Bar tailed godwit, along with many more waders as they return to their summer breeding grounds of the north Norfolk coast. With the early spring you will also see Marsh Harrier, Bearded tit and Bitten. There is also a high population of Barn Owls in Norfolk. I know several sites where we will capture some beautiful images as they hunt over farmland.

Barn owls mainly hunt at dawn and dusk but may sometimes be seen hunting even in the middle of the day, especially when they have young to feed or on the first fine day after a period of wet and windy weather. I will share with you my fieldcraft techniques and best practices that will allow you to get closer to your subject, increasing the variety and quality of your images.

Day 1
Our hotel is set in a beautiful village location and on arrival we will meet for introductions and discuss the layout of the day and expectations for the following day’s events and experiences, then head out to encounter our first photographic location. Sharing cars is recommended for greater accessibility, we will also use our cars as hides as we drive around to our many locations, never missing a photographic opportunity.

We will visit some of the best places to see the waders and as dusk approaches I’ll take you to one of my Barn Owl sites and hopefully capture it hunting with the sun setting. We will then return to the hotel to refresh for our evening meal, then review and discuss the day’s images, sharing valuable best practices and tips, enabling everyone to develop their approach, skills and techniques.

Day 2
An early start each morning will help you to capture some of the wildlife as the sun rises. Barn Owls will be our target before heading back to the hotel for breakfast. We then head out for the whole day visiting many locations and capturing all the opportunities that arise, visiting the many different sites for Marsh Harrier, Avocets, Barn Owls and many more subjects that live in this area of Norfolk. We'll go through skills learned in the first day, this will allow everyone to practice their fieldcraft along with simple camera settings I will show and teach throughout the 3 days..

Day 3
We will head out early to capture Avocet, Bar and Black-tailed Godwits feeding in the morning light, along with other beautiful Waders as the new dawn breaksThen head back for breakfast, after which wehead out for our final day. Visiting the beautiful places I've known and photographed at for many years. Then back to the hotel to review your images and a question and answers session before heading back home.
