Wild Macro Photography Days

Wild Macro Photography Days

Wild Macro Photography Days

The unseen world of nature has also fascinated me, the small creatures that live their lives below us and all around us yet we see very little of their lives and most goes unnoticed. Within my own photography I’ve always tired when possible to carry my macro lens and shoot as seen on the ground.

Kneeing down to that unseen world that’s all around us, or just using my macro lens to create a wonderful and very personal view of wildlife in a creative way. The settings from wildlife photography to macro photography couldn’t be more different and on these macro days I will show and demonstrate to you how you go about capturing this fascinating world that often we rarely see and give much notice too.

The location of these one day workshops will be the stunning Peak District, a place I have visited from my early teens. The whole span of wildlife there is wonderful from small insects, to flowers, to tree bark the list is endless and you’re always seeing something new and learning. I will help you see better and then start using your macro lens in your everyday photography like I do. Giving you another depth to your own photography and learning in a relaxed way how to capture the tiny creatures and unseen nature around us.

They will run through all four seasons of the year as nature gives up her beauty at different times of the year and in different stages. Winter offers its own challenges with shorter days and all living beings designed to make the most of those shorter days and colder conditions.

Then spring when the countryside bursts into life with snowdrops and flowers as the countryside signals the end of winter. Summer is a busy month and again the flowers, the insects will be everywhere. Then we have the amazing colours of Autumn and the rich bounty of food nature provides wildlife to feed on the head into winter with the best chance of survive

On these days we will make the best of what’s around us and the natural light, creating wonderful and very personal views of this unseen world I talk so passionately about. Being low, level and looking down will show you the many different ways in which you can capture an image and I will do my best to convey this to you on these days where we will photograph the wildlife from below.

On these days you will learn all the basic skills of how to use your camera and have a better understanding of depth of field and everything related to macro photography. Learning how to use composition and depth of field in a very creative way. Through the different seasons in the Uk there will be so many different subjects to photography and depending on your time of booking will determine what we can get some examples are-

Spring - Snowdrops, New flowers, Butterflies. Summer- Orchids, Insects, Butterfiles. Autumn- Fungi,Mushrooms, leaves, colours, Winter- Frost, ice, lichens etc.

Fitness Level

Most places will involve walking so a good all round level of fitness would be ideal.

Recommended Kit

You will need to provide your own photographic equipment. Any make of macro lens will be idea and if you’re stuck and use Nikon cameras I can loan you my 105mm lens should you wish. A tripod is a must as any moment can be the difference to a sharp image or not. A ball head is advised, but again I have a spare tripod/head you can use. Cable release or remote is also a must, clamps, head torch, kneepads/mat would also help.

Additional Information

The Peak District's weather can change and some of our locations are fairly exposed so appropriate clothing and footwear will be necessary. Waterproof housing and lens covers are also essential to protect your equipment.
